Job Description
The Plant Operator provides excellent service to our customers, shareholders and employees by assisting the Chief Plant Operator in assuming responsibility for water quality and regulatory compliance in the production of water for distribution to customers. The Plant Operator will provide support in operation and maintenance of all water supply pumping, treatment facilities and equipment, regulatory compliance with State of Maine Drinking Water Regulations and the Safe Drinking Water Act, customer satisfaction and water quality, and watershed and wellhead protection and land management.

Required Skills
The Plant Operator will assist with the performance of a wide variety of operating, maintenance and custodial duties. Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
Operation, repair and maintenance of all treatment plant equipment, SCADA control system and pumping stations.
Inspection and housekeeping of all facilities to insure a safe, clean and well maintained water production environment.
Proper collection of water samples required for compliance with federal and state regulations and for operational analyses.
Properly collect and report of all water production and water quality information necessary for regulatory compliance and Company records.
Accurately select order, receive, dispense, and record the use of water treatment chemicals. Insure availability and distribution of proper safety equipment and MSDS information for chemical handling.
Maintain and administer an Emergency Response Plan for each facility and train others for implementation of the plan if necessary.
Under the guidelines established by the Company, monitor water supplies and manage water levels and well levels to insure uninterrupted service to customers and efficient use of water resources.
Implement watershed and wellhead protection programs, including risk identification and assessment, land use monitoring, forestry management, land acquisition, public access policies and routine inspections.
Monitor regulatory activity that may impact treatment techniques or current operations at water production facilities and assist with keeping the Company complaint.
Assist in planning for capital improvements at each facility in anticipation of new water quality regulations.
Assist and train other operators and standby duty personnel.
Be available for standby duty and on-call emergency response on the monthly schedule established by the Chief Plant Operator.
Respond to water quality concerns from customers.

Required Experience
The successful candidate must hold a State of Maine Class II Water supply system operators license and must obtain a Class IV license within two years of employment.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
A valid Maine driver's license is required.
Three years of experience within a water or wastewater utility required, with treatment plant operation preferred.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong computer skills; experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and SCADA systems preferred.

Physical Requirements
Work is primarily indoors with prolonged periods of physical activity, but will also include and require the following:
Exposure to indoor and outdoor settings, potentially extreme heat, cold, wind, or humidity.
Frequent walking, bending, climbing and kneeling, and occasional squatting and crawling.
Exposure to sufficient noise to cause employee to shout above ambient noise level.
Potential exposure to vibration, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, toxic fumes, hazardous chemicals.
Occasionally in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small-enclosed rooms, permitted or non-permitted confined spaces and narrow aisles or passageways.
Occasional balancing, frequent repetitive motion, lifting, pushing and pulling.
Occasional exertion of force up to 50 pounds, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Frequent dexterity skills including feeling, grasping, reaching, and fingering.
Continuous hearing, talking, seeing as well as the ability to read, comprehend, problem solve, reason and concentrate.
Must be able to perform the physical functions required to operate all the necessary equipment to perform the functions of the job described above.
